“ANASKAFES – ROOTS & ROUTES: Culture, Tourism, Future”
“ANASKAFES – ROOTS & ROUTES: Culture, Tourism, Future” was successfully held on May 19 at the University of Piraeus, bringing together culture, sustainability, innovation, and community collaboration in an inspiring event filled with dialogue, learning, and creative exchange.
Hosted by the Department of Tourism Studies (UPRC), the event welcomed students, professionals, and cultural enthusiasts to explore how our cultural roots can inspire sustainable pathways for the future. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with Konstantinos Loukopoulos, archaeologist, PhD candidate, author, and creator of The Mythologist Project. Known for his innovative approach to mythology and archaeology through digital storytelling, he has built one of the most influential educational communities in Greece, with more than 224,000 YouTube subscribers and over 20 million views, alongside a strong presence on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. His work continues to inspire thousands of people daily by presenting Greek mythology and cultural heritage through a modern and accessible lens.
Through engaging discussions and interactive activities, participants reflected on the importance of strengthening local identity, promoting cultural awareness and protection, and encouraging social innovation through culture and tourism. The atmosphere throughout the event was marked by openness, creativity, and a shared vision for a future where cultural heritage becomes a driving force for sustainable development and meaningful community engagement. Participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas on the evolving relationship between culture and tourism, learn about the GreCO Project’s cultural innovations, and discuss the role of education, digital communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration in preserving and promoting cultural identity. The event created a valuable platform for dialogue between academia, creators, and professionals, encouraging new perspectives on how tradition and innovation can coexist in today’s rapidly changing world in tourism destinations.
“ANASKAFES – ROOTS & ROUTES” ultimately served as a meaningful reminder that culture is not only connected to the past but also plays a vital role in shaping the future. By bringing together people with shared interests and diverse expertise, the event demonstrated the power of collaboration, creativity, and cultural dialogue in building more sustainable and culturally conscious communities.
