2nd Workshop of the GreCO Project

2nd Workshop of the GreCO Project

The second workshop of the GreCO Project was successfully held on October 20, 2025, at the event hall of the 1st KAPI of the Municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli. The event marked an important milestone in the project’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development, cultural innovation, and entrepreneurship within the local community.

The workshop brought together policymakers, small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners, local stakeholders, cultural organisations, and residents of the region. This diverse mix of participants created a dynamic environment for exchange, learning, and collaboration, emphasizing the project’s inclusive and participatory character.

The Purpose and Objectives of the Workshop

The main aim of the workshop was to further communicate the vision, goals, and activities of the GreCO Project, while engaging participants in meaningful discussions about the project’s implementation and impact. Throughout the session, attendees had the opportunity to:

  • Learn in detail about the project’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Discover ways to strengthen entrepreneurship and extroversion through active participation.
  • Explore opportunities to co-create a greener, more sustainable, and culturally vibrant community.

The event also served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange perspectives on how local economies can grow sustainably while preserving the unique cultural identity of the Elliniko–Argyroupoli area.

The event began with opening remarks from Mr. Antonis Antonopoulos, General Secretary of the Municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli, and Mr. Petros Xintavelonis, President of the Board of ELLINIKO ANELIXIS S.A. Both speakers highlighted the importance of proactive and sustainable planning, particularly in anticipation of increased tourism flows resulting from the major investment in the Elliniko area. They stressed that this kind of forward-looking approach is a central element of the GreCO Project’s overall design and purpose.

Following the opening addresses, Professor Georgia Zouni from the Department of Tourism Studies, University of Piraeus, together with PhD candidates Evangelia Rapti and Myrevi Nasiou, delivered detailed presentations on the GreCO Project’s framework and expected outcomes. Their talks focused on the prospects for sustainable tourism development in the Municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli over the coming years, as well as the social and economic benefits that such a transformation could bring to local communities. The presentations underscored how the GreCO Project aims to act as a catalyst for green transition and social cohesion, promoting synergies between cultural initiatives, tourism strategies, and entrepreneurial growth. All project partners were there to support this initiative.

Dialogue and Community Participation

An open discussion followed the presentations, during which participants contributed valuable ideas and reflections on how to further enhance community involvement in the project’s next stages. Key themes that emerged included:

  • The need for stronger stakeholder participation in planning and implementing project activities.
  • The importance of highlighting and preserving the area’s cultural heritage as a foundation for sustainable tourism.
  • The identification of new business and social opportunities arising from the GreCO Project’s ongoing work.

The dialogue confirmed the strong interest of local actors in contributing to the design and implementation of actions that align with both community values and environmental sustainability.

The workshop concluded on a highly positive note, reflecting the collective enthusiasm and commitment of all participants. The exchange of ideas, open discussions, and collaborative spirit reaffirmed the shared vision of building a more sustainable, innovative, and culturally enriched future for the region.
